This is a fanmade manga by @drrr_rjhsbcc on Twitter! And oh my goodness is it beautiful... I was laying in bed when they posted it and I had to stay up a little bit more to read it and gush over how well done it was... I said it earlier but I looove Raijin Biology Club and so seeing this scene from the novel adapted into its own dedicated manga along with the extra things here and there just made me so happy!!!
I'm not going to be translating it completely because 1) I didn't get permission to and 2) my JP→ENG translation skills are not really good and always sound super unnatural so I fear I would not do this manga justice but I want to ramble about it a little and give my thoughts.
Starting with the first two pages! There's not much to say here but I love the way the second page is drawn. Having Izaya look out on all the people at what looks like a movie theatre is such an interesting perspective to me...! My favorite part however is the actual movie screen. It's the episode title of the actual first episode of the Durarara anime, along with the banners that have Shinra and Izaya's first lines of dialogue to each other on them.
Something @drrr_rjhsbcc (I don't know their name sorry.) adds that wasn't in the original novel that I REEEEEEEEEEALLLY fucking love is this scene where all the students are introducing themselves. Izaya's intently listening to all of them and during this one person's introduction he's analyzing their intonation and recognizes it as something like rural? And then the student goes "My hobby is playing video games" he goes "Oh, someone's reacted to his hobby, I wonder if they're into gaming too" it's like. RAGHHHH I love seeing Izaya's thought processes in real time. He's so fucking cool even if he lowkey is a loser.
